If you’ve never done French kissing before, it can be quite an overwhelming experience. The anticipation of touching another person’s tongue with your tongue can be both intriguing and intimidating at the same time.

• What will your partner’s reaction be when they feel your tongue on their tongue?
• Will they pull away?
• Will they want more?
• How far should you extend your tongue?
• What part of their mouth should you touch?

All these thoughts can swirl around in an instant and the fear of doing something wrong can be extremely stressful.

The main thing to remember about French kissing is that it is something that both you and your partner should enjoy. Like regular kissing, it should be done gently and there should be a willingness from both partners to explore.

French Kissing Tips

Step 1: The first thing you will want to do before you begin your French kissing experience is to make sure that you have relatively clean breath. With French kissing, you will be delving into more of your partner’s mouth so you will want to make a little extra effort on having fresh breath.

If you have a toothbrush handy, then use it. If not, then mouthwash, a breath mint, or even gum is a good second choice.

Step 2: After you’ve cleared the good breath hurdle you will next want to make sure that you don’t have excess saliva in your mouth. Often, the anticipation and nervousness of the situation can cause a build up of saliva.

Very quickly swallow any excess saliva. (Turning and spitting out your excess saliva is typically not recommended as it could easily spoil the mood.)

Step 3: Moisten your lips. You can do this very quickly and discreetly by lightly licking your lips. You may want to do this while your partner is glancing at something else or you can turn your head slightly so that your partner doesn’t see you.

Step 4: Relax. Kissing someone who is tense with tight lips is like kissing a rock. Also, when you’re tense there is a greater chance that you’ll be too forceful in your kissing. You want to be relaxed and gentle.

Step 5: Start off slowly like a regular kiss. When you approach your partner, part your lips slightly and lightly tough their lips with your tongue — like you giving them a very light brush.

This is done to test their reaction, to see if they are willing to explore this type of kissing with you.

If they recoil in disgust or shock, then your partner is obviously not ready for French kissing and you’ll need to discuss it with them further.

If they have no reaction, you may want to pull back a little to read their eyes and facial expression. That will give you a good indication as to whether or not you could try it again.

If they return your tongue brushing with their own, then congratulations — you’ve experienced your first foray into French kissing!

Continue to explore, always going slowly and gently. Imagine you are taking a walk down a path with your partner. You don’t want to run in front of them or drag behind. You want to explore and experience this French kissing path side by side.
